The first of John's two singles with
the UK's top team [second only to Brentford, of
course] was
with theStatus Quo boys, and was a re-write of their 1988 hit 'Burning Bridges'. The track, 'Come on You
Reds' re-worked the Quo's instrumental breaks
[based by Andrew
on the Irish Jig 'Derby Kelley']
into crowd-pleasing chants that took both theQuo andMan United toUK #1[and #1 in most European countries] for 6
weeks.
The second collaboration was betweenMan United,
John,Andrew Bown,Mike Paxman and rapper
'Stryker', who was, in fact, anArsenal fan from North London calledJay who was found through their
agency. This rap re-cut ofRick
Parfitt,Andrew Bown &Jackie
Lynton's 1978 song 'Again and Again', called 'We're Gonna do
It Again', reachedUK
#6 a year later. | |||
