Having met up with, and
impressed,Pip Williams,
John
and Jeff were called by him to play as session
men onRick
Parfitt's solo album
'Recorded Delivery', following
the untimely split of Quo due to band
politics.
The album got nowhere - it never even
qualified for release - but most of the tracks have been sinced used,
mostly as Quo
B-Sides. One such notable track was 'Don't
Give it Up', a favourite of John's earlier group 'Rhino!'.
This was later re-written withFrancis
Rossi andRick Parfitt,
although still creditingLightman and
Edwards, of the Quo to provide their B-Side to theUK
#6 single 'Red Sky' in 1986.

In 1984 Status Quo gave their fans a farewell
concert in the Milton Keynes Bowl. It was, at the time, their
goodbye to the live circuit under that name. Alan Lancaster moved to Australia, Pete Kircher worked as a session
musician, and Rick Parfitt and
Francis Rossi separated for the
first time in over 20 years to persue solo
projects.
Parfitt's effort, 'Recorded Delivery' featured long-time Quo
producer Pip Williams at the helm,
and he brought in two session musicians he had previously
played with for the Norwegian Trond
Granuld. The boys, John
Edwards and Jeff Rich, so
impressed Parfitt that they were featured on the whole album
rather than the few songs intended. This
addition included the 'Rhino!'
track 'Don't Give it Up'.
Meanwhile, back in the charts, Rossi and his songwriting
partner Bernard Frost were riding
[relatively] high with their singles 'Modern Romance' and 'Jealousy' involving Quo's ex-pianist
Andrew Bown, and drummer Pete Kircher. However, the studio album
they had worked so hard on 'Flying
Debris' was shelved by the record company who really
wanted Rossi and Parfitt together as they knew that was
what the public wanted.
Thus the same fate befell Parfitt's 'Recorded Delivery' Album, although
several tracks later emerged as Status
Quo B-Sides [see below] of the mid to late
80's as Phonogram pressed for Quo's completion of contract and
the group was forced to reform. In fact these are almost
definately the original Parfitt recordings, except 'Dont Give it
Up ' which was re-written twice, once by Rick, once
by Francis, before release. Rossi, Parfitt and Bown were
back this time with John and Jeff in the fold. Pete Kircher then retired from Rock 'n'
Roll.

| Excerpt from an interview by Ram Samudrala
Is your solo
project, Recorded Delivery, ever going to be released?
I really don't think so. At the time I did
it back in '85 or so, I was pleased with it. It kind of
freaked me out to do it. It gave me a sense and feel for
what I was capable of. But now it's been gathering dust
and most of the tracks have come out on B-sides, which
is a bit unfortunate I suppose. I would have liked them
to have come to light in a much better way.
Are any more songs
from it going to turn up as B-sides?
I don't think so. The pot's fairly empty.
Most of them, if not all, have been released as B-sides.
However, there is one song I wrote which I love,
Halloween. I might have another shot at it some time in
the
future. | | | |
