This
late 70's Disco outfit from France released a couple of albums and singles
from 1977 onwards, the first being Magic Fly and it's namesake
single which just missed the top of the charts mid-1977 at UK #2.
Unfortunately this was not to be the shape of things to come
and as far as the UK were concerned the band sank into
obscurity. Despite their lack of worldwide success, there
was some very interesting material recorded, in
particular track called
Deeper Zone with some typically
John Edwards' style bass-gymnastics.
The best
compilation I have so far discovered is the QED release The Very Best
of Space A good quality budget CD [around 5 UKP] which gives nearly a
full hour of some of the most fascinating pieces created by this group -
including the aforementioned Magic Fly and Deeper
Zone. However, it doesn't include the two
follow-up singles Tango in Space and Deliverance -
although you do get Tango in Space's B-Side,
Carry On, Turn Me On, a track which could be hailed as
Space's answer to Je t'aime... Moi Non
